12. Trainwreck
Release Date: July 17 (US), August 28 (UK) The Plot: Amy (Amy Schumer) has been commitment-phobic ever since childhood, but when she meets Dr. Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), she makes a go of having a monogamous, honest relationship for the first time in her life...with interesting results. Why It's Going To Be Awesome: Judd Apatow is directing someone else's script for the first time, and it just so happens to be Schumer's. Reviews from the premiere at SXSW are borderline-ecstatic, suggesting that the movie will do for the lead actress what Knocked Up did for Seth Rogen: basically, expect her to start appearing in every comedy under the sun over the next twelve months. Like Apatow's best films, critics have praised Trainwreck for being uproariously funny but also dramatically poignant. And on top of all this, the cast includes Tilda Swinton, Brie Larson, Barkhad Abdi, Mike Birbiglia, Ezra Miller, John Cena, LeBron James, Method Man, Daniel Radcliffe, Marisa Tomei and Randall Park. Jeez!
