15 Awful Endings That Ruined Potentially Great Films

12. Star Wars: Episode VI - Return Of The Jedi (1983)

Quite possibly the reason why no more Star Wars films were made after this for 16 years, Return of the Jedi ended on such a fail. Much in the same way a seventh film has taken so long since Episode III. Not only did the ending of Return raise questions that nobody needed to hear asked, it also felt incongruous to the world that had been so meticulously created over the past three films. The Ending That Ruined The Film In a seemingly desperate attempt to wrap up all possible loose ends to the saga - much of which had not been fully realized without the prequel trilogy €“ elements of the ending turned into such a forced anti-climax. The real disappointment came when Princess Leia reveals she and Luke Skywalker are siblings. It was a weird twist, and completely unnecessary as it does not explain or tie up any loose plot ends. More like an €˜Oh, by the way€€™ moment, this kills the ending of the saga and also feels too forced in a world where such a revelation between Luke and Vader actually played well. When the kiss happened, everybody who had seen the previous two films felt dirty. It is a natural reaction. Especially if you go back and watch Mark Hamill€™s reaction to the kiss after it happened. In fact it would have been better had George Lucas turned the ending into the incest version of Finkle is Einhorn and had Luke vomit all over Anakin Skywalker€™s grave or something. At any rate, it is interesting to see that it has been alluded to in the trailer upcoming Episode VII. Looks like they're going to roll with it.
