15 Awful Films Mission Impossible Actors Want You To Forget

14. Echelon Conspiracy (2009) - Ving Rhames

RottenTomatoes Score: 0% The Plot: Computer engineer Max (Shane West) comes into possession of a mobile phone which provides him with various instructions which lead him to great wealth. Soon enough, though, government agents, including FBI Agent Dave Grant (Rhames), beginning pursuing Max all over the world as it's decided that he simply knows too much about a secret AI computer system. Why It Sucks: An extremely disappointing second feature from 11:14 director Greg Marcks, this is a wildly generic techno thriller that feels like it should've been released about a decade earlier to land an audience. It feels like a straight-to-video movie from start to finish (and in fact missed a theatrical release in many countries), wasting two brilliant actors in Martin Sheen and Rhames in particular, the latter of whom is reduced to just shouting a lot and looking thoroughly bored throughout. This is a textbook example of a paycheck role, and no matter some of Rhames' more outrageous filmography choices (Piranha 3DD, anyone?), none are quite as soul-crushingly dull as Echelon Conspiracy.
