15 Bafflingly High Rotten Tomatoes Scores You Won't Believe

12. The Blair Witch Project

Critical Consensus: "Full of creepy campfire scares, mock-doc The Blair Witch Project keeps audiences in the dark about its titular villain -- thus proving that imagination can be as scary as anything onscreen." Why It's Wrong: Despite building huge audience interest by way of a ground-breaking viral marketing campaign, The Blair Witch Project massively divided audiences upon release. Many dismissed it because, in their words, "nothing happened", and the undeniably inventive found footage approach was ultimately more obtrusive to the experience than it was beneficial. Why The Critics Liked It: Again, it's a film that simply does something different. The vast majority of mainstream horror flicks are the same old hat jump scare nonsense, so to see a film, an indie no less, playing with the format and relying on minimalism was exactly what they wanted. Even so, it's hard to reconcile that 7.7/10 average score.
