15 Bafflingly Low Rotten Tomatoes Scores You Won't Believe

7. Last Action Hero (37%)

Critical Consensus: "Joyless, tasteless, and soulless, Last Action Hero can't decide if it's an actioner, a comedy or a spoof." - Emanuel Levy Why It€™s Wrong: Simply, critics just didn't get this one at all. After Arnold Schwarzenegger's immense success in the action arena, they pretty much expected more of the same, and so were deflated when Last Action Hero turned out to be a decidedly more daring movie, an ambitious satire of Hollywood and a wry send-up of the actor himself. It's full of hilarious one-liners and nods to Arnie's career (the Sylvester Stallone Terminator 2 poster is an all-timer), and boasts a marvelous villainous performance from Charles Dance. If there's any movie on this list desperate for a critical re-evaluation, it's surely this stone cold cult classic. Why The Critics Hated It: Because they, like audience members, simply weren't prepared for such an absurdly over-the-top and self-referential movie. It continues to endure as the sort of movie that really isn't made much in Hollywood, a wonderful relic that flew wildly over the heads of most who saw it back in 1993.
