15 Best Action Movies Of The Last 10 Years

A surprising number of films and TV shows have appropriated the plot of Groundhog Day, but none have done so as successfully as Tom Cruise vehicle Edge Of Tomorrow. Cruise plays an office-bound military man who becomes integral to a war with an alien race. He dies in combat, but finds himself stuck in a time loop, wherein he’s transported back to the day before a key battle each time he meets his maker.

Key to the film’s success is Cruise himself; the man may just be the greatest action movie star ever to live. His well known penchant for doing his own stunts and his ability to conjure something like an everyman aura while being one of the most famous people on Earth makes him a hugely compelling lead, and he’s joined here by the always excellent Emily Blunt.

The mystery behind the time loop deepens as the plot patiently unfolds, and is bolstered by chaotic combat action from director Doug Liman (of the Bourne franchise fame). Edge Of Tomorrow was a bit of a slow burner on release but was soon rightly lauded as one of the smartest sci fi action flicks in years.
