15 Best Alien Movie Deaths

The grisly jack in the box that was the first ever Alien death is also undisputedly the greatest death scene in the franchise, and a landmark moment in the horror genre.

It’s ironic that the one scene everyone knew was taking the top spot was incidentally the one moment no first time viewer of Alien saw coming. With Kane having apparently recovered from his close encounter with a face-hugging parasite, all was supposed to be well. Dining and laughing with his space-faring comrades, a false sense of security is lulled in everyone present as surely, with the acid-blooded creature lying dead, the danger has passed.

So when Kane begins to violently convulse before his ribcage explodes in a gory wreck, and the newborn Xenomorph makes its bloody introduction to the world, it’s a tremendous shock not only for the characters, but for the legitimately surprised cast and the viewers who’d never forget what they’d just witnessed.

The moment spawned multitudes of imitators over the course of the series, but it was the original that marked our first nightmarish acquaintance with the titular space beasts. The chestburster scene is the quintessential Alien moment, and in terms of sheer shock, it can never be bettered.
