3. Frozen - Let It Go

Frozen was a cultural phenomenon when it first came out in 2014, and while this year’s follow up doesn’t have quite the same box office might, it hasn’t diminished the gloss of Frozen’s pop culture power.

Let It Go was the flagship song of the movie, with Elsa’s ballad of freedom establishing itself as one of the best known movie songs ever. Pop star Demi Lovato was drafted in to record a chart friendly version before the movie released, but star Idina Menzel turned out to be more than capable of shunting it up the charts on her own.

It’s more of an aside to the movie in the grand scheme of things; we see Elsa’s costume change and growth in confidence, but as storytelling goes, Let It Go was a minor event.

Despite Elsa being the marketed figure, Anna actually had a much greater role in the story, and several of her key plot points could be here instead. It feels slightly strange that Olaf is absent here too.

In the grand scheme of things though, Let It Go was the big takeaway from Frozen, and demanded inclusion.
