15 Best Animated Movie Moments Of The Decade
14. How To Train Your Dragon - Meeting Toothless
Toothless the dragon is probably the best example of body acting in an animated character since Lilo & Stitch’s Stitch. Without saying a word, Toothless has managed to become one of animations most loveable modern creations, and his first meeting with Hiccup is the perfect example of that.
Toothless has a hyper reactive nature, one which fills him to the brim with a silly, goofy personality. There’s real substance there too though, with Toothless’ injured tail wing drawing a nice symmetry with Hiccup’s leg and setting them off a journey together right from the off.
As the last Night Fury in existence, Toothless also comes with a hugely evocative design which sets him apart from other dragons, both in How To Train Your Dragon and on screen in general. There are certainly more epic moments across the trilogy, but none as memorable as Toothless’ first showing.
Right from then, the plot of the movies and the popularity of the franchise rests on Toothless’ impact. It’s off the back of him that How To Train Your Dragon has done so well, with Toothless standing out as one of the best new mascots of this decade.
