15 Best Animated Movie Moments Of The Decade
13. Kubo & The Two Strings - The Final Battle
Kubo & The Two Strings is one of the most artful films of the decade, and a rare example of ‘the making of’ being even better than the film itself.
It’s the knowledge of how painstakingly the movie was put together which makes the final battle even more impressive, but it’s not a knowledge which is necessary to appreciate the choreography of the sequence.
Kubo & The Two Strings centres around young Kubo searching for his late father’s mystical armour, in order to finally conquer the evil Moon King. Kubo is played by Art Parkinson, best known for playing Rickon Stark in Game Of Thrones, while the Moon King is the incomparable Ralph Fiennes.
The stellar cast is also supported by Charlize Theron and Matthew McConaughey, although Kubo is much more than a churned out star studded animation.
The final battle sees Kubo fight valiantly against the serpentine spirit, his newly found golden armour aglow with the ethereal blue of the spirit. Each thrust of the sword feels visceral, each twist from the spirit mighty and weighted. Kubo’s distinctive art style was put to perfect use bringing this battle to life.
