8. Your Name - Through The Looking Glass
While anime continues to gain popularity in the West, the majority of hits this decade have been TV shows. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, My Hero Academia, Attack On Titan, One Punch Man, Yuri!!! On Ice... these are the sorts of things people might think of in terms of big anime of the 2010s.

If you’re only going to have one horse in the race though, Your Name is a helluva horse to have.
Your Name takes the body swap tropes of the Freaky Friday genre and makes them heartbreaking. There’s a sprinkle of comedy when Taki and Mitsuha first realise what’s happened, but for the most part it’s played incredibly straight.
The second half of the movie is a lurch from one tearjerker to the next, as Taki & Mitsuha try to meet, and try to figure out why this is happening to them. They aren’t body swapping in sync, instead it’s happening three years apart, so joining up proves impossible.
Late in the film, they find the rift, a glowing pink sliver, and are able to reach through, although only for a moment.
