If you like anime and haven't boarded the Demon Slayer train yet, you'd better pop your travel clothes on because it's not one you want to miss. The series is arguably the biggest anime in the world right now, and this movie goes to show why.

Mugen Train follows on directly from the first season of the show. It depicts the events after the Demon Slayers Tanjiro, Inouske and Zenitsu team up with the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku, to board the Infinity train and kill an Upper-Rank Demon.

This film was so successful that it collected a whole heap of records, including becoming the highest-grossing Japanese movie of all time, the first non-Hollywood movie to top the annual box office, and the highest-grossing film of 2020. The crazy thing is, it deserves all those accolades.

Mugen Train plays to Demon Slayer's strengths in that it's a simple story told with luscious animation, tension, humour and tenderness. However, the movie's biggest plus point comes as the plot reaches what seems like its crescendo.

There's an additional climax that pushes the movie from great to phenomenal. The final showdown is one of the most spectacular pieces of animation in the genre and created a new iconic moment in shounen storytelling.
