15 Best Anime Tie-In Movies Of All Time

14. Cowboy Bebop: The Movie

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End Of Evangelion
TV Tokyo

Cowboy Bebop is a masterclass anime that thrived on how limited it was. The story was told in a bite-sized piece and concluded definitively, meaning that while fans loved it, they didn't feel the need for more. But, letting sleeping dogs lie is never the way with entertainment, and Cowboy Bebop got another lease on life with this stunning movie.

Set in between episodes 22 and 23 of the series, this movie shows the Bebop crew - led by Spike - travelling to Mars. There, they attempt to stop a terrorist before he unleashes a deadly swarm of nanomachines on Alba city.

The movie picks up right away on the show's charm, mainly because of the returning creative crew. It ups the visual style to something more cinematic but is conscious of keeping the same muted/gritty aesthetic Bebop was known for, meaning it's familiar but improved upon. Plus the chemistry of the leading characters leaves them still feeling like one of the best groups in anime.

Overall, this one managed to live up to the show's hype and was a great last hurrah. Well, at least until Netflix came along and *sigh* did their Netflix thing.
