14. The Hitchhiker (Creepshow 2, 1987)

"Thanks for the ride, Lady!"

A wealthy adulteress, Annie, races to make it home before her husband after spending the evening with a prostitute out of town. Momentarily distracted from the road, Annie runs over a hitchhiker, and promptly flees the scene in panic. She reassures herself, confident that no one will be able to place her at the hit and run. And then she sees him – the same hitchhiker, mangled and bloody, determined to get his ride.

It’s a very simple concept, but it makes for the standout tale of the film. The hitchhiker’s repeated line: “Thanks for the ride, Lady!” is the line that everyone remembers and recites from Creepshow 2. Of all the stories from either Creepshow film (we'll pretend the third one didn't happen for the purposes of this article, and my sanity), The Hitchhiker comes by far the closest to a straightforward horror story. That's not to say that this approach is the reason for it being such a strong segment - in fact it probably could've been improved with more the campy approach of the other stories.

Olivia Bradbury hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
