Eclipsing its aforementioned sequel by some distance, this adaptation of Frank Millers Sin City graphic novels is one of the finest comic book movies ever made. Its also the second best one that you can find on Netflix at the time of writing. Miller directs this scattershot story which is split into several loosely interconnected parts - with the help of Robert Rodriquez and Quentin Tarantino. Theyve got an impressive cast to play with including Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Elijah Wood and Jessica Alba. Earning commercial success and loads of positive reviews, Sin City translates the experience of reading a comic to the big screen with more success than any other movie. Colour plays an important role, the story jumps around wildly, and comic book-style panels come to life as a stylish framing device. Across six short stories, the gritty and gruesome world of Sin City is brought to life. Theres death at every corner, and plentiful gruesome visuals to match. In particular, the brutal conclusion to That Yellow Bastard will stick with you long after the credits have rolled. Importantly, you won't forget the small collection of likeable characters from this film in a hurry, either.
