Inspired partly by the limited series of the same name, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is one of many comic book movie sequels that doesnt quite live up to its predecessor. Despite that, this 2014 film is still an impressive feat of stylish cinema that succeeds on many of its own terms. The cast is hugely impressive, with the likes of Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis and Rosario Dawson reprising their roles from the original film alongside newcomers Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ray Liotta, Lady Gaga and of course Eva Green, as the eponymous murder-worthy woman. She sizzles throughout, as youd expect. After all, this is the femme fatale role she was born to play. Visually, the film is something of a treat, too. The pulpy, panelled style of the first film is revisited and re-mastered, and the action scenes retain that stylish flair that sets the Sin City series apart from the vast majority of comic book movies. There might not be anything new or surprising here, but there are many worse ways to spend a couple of hours.
