15 Best Movie Deaths Of 2017
13. It Comes At Night – Will, Kim & Andrew
Director Trey Edward Shults dazzled audiences with his critically acclaimed indie drama debut in 2015 and stayed true to form with his second feature, psychological horror It Comes at Night.
Set in a post-apocalyptic near-future in which a deadly virus has ravaged mankind, the film stars Joel Edgerton as Paul who along with his wife Sarah and teenage son Travis are attempting to survive the disease by secluding themselves away in a remote house in the woods. Their relative security comes under threat with the arrival of another family of three – Will, his wife Kim and their toddler son Andrew – who Paul grows increasingly distrustful of.
The tension comes to a head when Paul and Sarah realise young Andrew is probably infected and demand the family leave their home to protect Travis. A fight between Paul and Will ensues, cut short when an adrenaline-fuelled Sarah fatally shoots Will.
As Kim tries to escape with Andrew, Paul shoots after them hitting and killing the little boy after which a devastated Kim begs him to kill her too. An equally distraught Paul obliges as his family look on.
It’s a devastating conclusion to the mounting dread and paranoia that turns out to be for naught when it’s revealed that Travis is infected anyway. No happy ending for them or us.
