11. Annihilation

In terms of trailers that gave away almost nothing while presenting jaw-dropping, unforgettable imagery, the first teaser for Alex Garland's upcoming sci-fi film Annihilation certainly got people talking.

Though the trailer doesn't present much in the way of a clear narrative or antagonist, it does illustrate Natalie Portman's statuesque presence front and centre alongside a talented supporting cast (including Oscar Isaac and Tessa Thompson), beautifully bizarre visuals, and a bleak, slow-paced mood and tone.

While the full trailer released last month was decidedly more action-packed - likely reflecting Paramount's apparent unease over how the movie will fare with casual audiences - this teaser kept things vague, gorgeous and very, very weird. For many sci-fi fans, that's all they needed to see to be on-board for whatever Garland serves up.
