15 Best Movie Trailers Of 2017
10. The Hitman's Bodyguard
Whether or not you feel that The Hitman's Bodyguard lived up to the R-rated potential of its marketing, the first red-band trailer did a fantastic job cementing the loony chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, in large part thanks to its secret weapon: Whitney freaking Houston.
The trailer makes hilarious use of Houston's iconic "I Will Always Love You" (from her movie The Bodyguard, of course), intercut with foul-mouthed squabbling between Reynolds and Jackson and a ton of cartoonish action.
The song then violently comes to an abrupt end when Reynolds' character is ejected through a car windshield, further realising the heightened tone and how utterly insane the movie was going to be.
It's a damn shame the filmmakers didn't find a way to work the song into the actual movie, because it worked wonders here. It goes without saying that scoring your trailer to the best-selling movie soundtrack of all time is an easy way to ensure box office success.
