15 Best Movie Villains Of The Decade

10. Terence Fletcher - Whiplash (2014)

Whiplash JK Simmons
Sony Pictures Classics

One of the best things to be said about JK Simmons' Terence Fletcher in Damien Chazelle's blistering tale of ambition and the cost of dreams is the stinging suspicion that he would never class himself as a villain. For him, the ends justify the means and his brutal treatment of Miles Teller's Andrew - to the point of him becoming utterly tunnel visioned and destroying the rest of his life - is a necessary evil to help him become what he has within him.

He's your prototypical over-zealous bully with no concern over the negative implications of his behaviour, a psychopath justified by his position and his successes that have done no more than amplify every bad thing about him. And there is something perversely impressive about what he clearly believes he can get away with.

He's a toe-curling monster, volatile and furious and the final twist of the dagger when you think he's been mellowed by his experience is just glorious.
