Originally intended as a web series, Sound of my Voice follows two documentary filmmakers who attempt to infiltrate an illusive cult and expose its leader as a fraud. The leader in question is a young woman named Maggie who claims to be from the future.

Sound of my Voice is low-budget but that works in the film's favour as it can almost come across as a docudrama, adding a layer of realism to the film. The pacing is slow but deliberate as the two filmmakers become enthralled by Maggie's charisma and knowledge against their better judgment.

Brit Marling wrote the role of Maggie with herself in mind and she captures the lofty yet grounded nature of the character brilliantly. She is the standout of the film and you will be enticed by her mystique.

Sound of my Voice is a great example of doing a lot with a modest budget and manages to be a compelling story of a woman that may or may not be a liar.
