11. The Last Watch

Game Of Thrones The Last Watch
HBO

Okay, so maybe this is a controversial choice, but when something as profoundly touching, deftly observed and wonderfully gripping as The Last Watch is released, it deserves just as much attention as everything else that's brilliant. No matter how it's released.

The Last Watch is, of course, the feature-length documentary that was released in the wake of the final season of Game Of Thrones and told the production story of those last six episodes. And it's not a mere fluff piece turning the film-makers into untouchable Gods - it is, instead, a human-focused, ground-level celebration and lamentation of the arduous experience the crew were put through.

Director Jeanie Finlay trains her lens away from those you'd usually seek in production stories - like the cast - and instead focuses on the "little people" - the guy in charge of snow, the couple heading up effects who miss their daughter, the catering teams and the most enthusiastic extra of all time (the wonderful Andrew McClay) to find the real story. Honestly, it's more emotional and more gripping than lots of the final season.
