2. Hellraiser: Hellseeker (2002)
Hellraiser: Hellseeker is the sixth entry into Clive Barker's legendary horror franchise, the second movie in the series to go straight-to-video, and the last to date to have any active involvement from Barker himself.
Though the only truly good Hellraiser movies are the first two, the series should be commended for at least trying something different with each new instalment, rather than just rehashing its prior success.
Hellseeker stars the far-too-talented Dean Winters as the survivor of a car crash which apparently kills his wife Kirsty (Ashley Laurence, reprising her role from the first two movies), but of course, where Pinhead (Doug Bradley) is concerned, things are never as they seem.
Even though Pinhead's screen time is disappointingly sparse, Winters' genuinely compelling performance and the fan appeal of seeing Laurence back in the series combines to make this a suitably trippy, occasionally stylish romp. Director Rick Bota, who went on to helm the next two Hellraiser movies too, brings solid style to the table considering the mere $3 million budget.
It's certainly nowhere near the worst of the series, even if the critics currently peg it as such.
