3. Deadfall (1993)

Deadfall Nicolas Cage
Trimark Pictures

If there's any movie on this list overdue a critical re-evaluation, it's surely this Nicolas-Cage starring crime drama directed by Cage's brother Christopher Coppola.

Technically Michael Biehn is the front-and-center "star" of the show, but his rather flat performance allows Cage, as hopped-up slimeball criminal Eddie King, to barrel through the movie with a logic-annihilatingly insane performance that's...really quite brilliant.

It is Cage at surely his most crazed on-screen, and if you don't believe it, just check out the customary YouTube montage for yourself. Cage doesn't merely swing for the fences: he swings for the stratosphere, and delivers a turn so strangely transfixing it elevates what is otherwise a pretty manky, dull neo-noir.

The 2012 Eric Bana-starring remake meanwhile managed to score a not-awful 34% rating, but it's nowhere near as charming or interesting as the Cage Originalâ„¢.
