15 Best Performances In MCU Movies (So Far)

13. Michael Keaton - Adrian Toomes

Avengers Infinity War Thor
Marvel Studios

The long awaited addition of Spider-Man to the MCU was something of a coup, and felt like one of the final pieces of the puzzle. The highly anticipated film did not disappoint, with Michael Keaton, making a return to the world of comic book movies after more than 25 years out, one of its highlights.

As Adrian Toomes, a.k.a The Vulture, Keaton gives us a typically kinetic performance - he’s a great actor, but subtle he is not. That doesn’t mean it’s a one note depiction, however. Keaton manages to generate sympathy for the character, and to turn his descent into supervillainy into something almost relatable. Keaton does put-upon very well - The Vulture’s methods are, of course, extreme, but there are understandable elements to the character, too.

It’s clear the MCU have learned from the previous use of Spider-Man villains, which were either wildly bombastic or dull. Keaton’s Vulture is the perfect antagonist for a teenage Spider-Man, with just the right level of power and sinisterness. They made the smart decision not to kill him off just yet - we look forward to seeing him again.
