Alexandria Bombach’s devastating documentary details the price of activism as Yazidi genocide survivor Nadia Murad becomes a reluctant spokesperson for her people, drawing attention to the massacre while bearing plenty of her own scars.

Bombach won the U.S. Documentary Competition prize for Directing, with what's said to be an uncommonly intimate look at the role figureheads of tragedies have to play, effectively creating a performance for the media to latch on to.

In examining a corner of political activism rarely explored and tackling it from a totally different angle, the film distinguishes itself in Sundance's ever-crowded field of smash-hit docs.
