12. Blue Is The Warmest Colour

The Notebook

If you are looking for a light hearted romance film to flick your brain off and enjoy a lighthearted treat, then look elsewhere than this 3 hour intense love story. The French film refuses to pull any punches, including intense hetrosexual and gay sex scenes that skip all the Hollywood cliches for realism and genuine passion.

Our protagonists are Adele and the blue haired Emma, who fall head over heels in love and instigate in a passionate relationship. While the couple have issues dealing with the more conservative mindset of Adele's working class parents, the real issues arrive when they realise they have very little in common.

For those who have patience and are looking for honesty in their romantic films, then this movie will prove extremely rewarding. The acting from the lead actors is first rate, lead by Adèle Exarchopoulos in the role of Adèle, who brings out the insecurities of her character with real emotion. Léa Seydoux brings to life the more confident blue haired Emma, displaying the presence that made her such a strong Bond girl.

Like many entries on this list, the finale proves more heartbreaking than heartwarming, but unlike more cliched endings of a similar vain, this one actually has something to say.
