Few will forget the moment when, during last year's Super Bowl, Netflix announced the insta-release of a new Cloverfield movie directly following the sports extravaganza.

And though The Cloverfield Paradox is destined to be remembered more for its envelope-pushing release than its actual content, it is an ambitiously weird body horror movie, albeit one that never even begins to live up to its potential.

Still, Gugu Mbatha-Raw gives an impressive performance, the various oddities aboard the space station are entrancingly revolting, and you certainly can't call it boring.

"Best" Moment: The demented final jump scare, where upon the hero's return to Earth, audiences are greeted to a gigantic Clover monster bursting through the Earth's upper atmosphere.

In a movie mostly divorced from the Cloverfield franchise, this was an uproarious two middle fingers up at the audience. "See, it's a Cloverfield movie really!"
