15 Biggest Guilty Pleasure Movies Of 2018
5. Breaking In
A glorified Netflix Original that somehow tripped and fell into cinemas worldwide, Breaking In sees director James McTeigue continuing his shocking run of post-V for Vendetta movies with this typical home invasion romp.
With a script from Ryan Engle - who also wrote The Commuter - there's just barely enough evidence that this film is at least mildly aware of its own tawdriness, dialling the cliches up to 11 and giving Gabrielle Union the floor give a genuinely strong performance.
Seriously, can someone give this woman an actual good movie sometime soon? She acts her heart out here and is 90% of the reason it's as watchable as it is.
The other 10%? That's the enthusiastic smattering of wonky thriller cliches and a few stylistically sharp moments courtesy of an otherwise bored McTeigue.
"Best" Moment: The sheer idiocy of the movie's gang of thieves, who find themselves outsmarted by Gabrielle Union and her two children at pretty much every turn.
Poor veteran character actor Billy Burke, who as the ringleader at least tries to make some sense of it all.
