Marvel Studios didn't make that big of a splash at SDCC this year, mostly because they didn't provide us with any new information about Doctor Strange (seriously, not even a release date?) or information about long-rumored projects like Ms. Marvel and Black Panther. However, they didannounce one upcoming project, a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy. To close out their panel in Hall H on Saturday night, James Gunn and Chris Pratt announced via video chat that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 would hit theaters on July 28, 2017. Gunn will be back to write and direct, and the cast is expected to return. Announcing a release date, three years in advance, before the first film even hits theaters is a hugesign of confidence from Marvel, and just shows that maybe there's something to those glowingly positive reviews coming from early screenings. Still though, no Doctor Strange? C'mon, Marvel!
