15 Biggest Questions Still Left By 2018 Movies

2. Aurelius?! - Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald

Dumbledore Credence
Warner Bros.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald makes a number of major changes to what we thought we knew about Harry Potter canon, but by far the biggest comes right at the very end of the movie. It's then that Gellert Grindelwald reveals the truth of Credence Barebone's identity: he's Aurelius Dumbledore, brother of Albus.

It's enough to make any Potter fan spit out their butterbeer in shock. As previously established, Dumbledore had a brother, Aberforth, and a sister, Ariana, with the latter dying as the result of a three-way duel between her two brothers and Grindelwald. By this stage, their mother, Kendra, was already dead, and their father Percival was serving a life sentence in Azkaban.

At no point in all of this does Aurelius seem to exist, so how has he came to be? Is he the son of Percival? Is he a different kind of relation to Albus? Or is Grindelwald just straight-up lying?
