The Scene: While recuperating in hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton) climbs on the ledge of the window in his hospital room and disappears. His daughter Sam (Emma Stone) arrives soon thereafter and, seeing no sign of her father, can only assume that he's jumped. She looks down in terror but soon looks up with a smile on her face, as the scene cuts to black and the film ends. Why It's So WTF: It's certainly one of the most bizarre and ambiguous endings of the year, with audiences left to wonder whether Riggan died in his fall and his daughter is simply choosing to invent a fantasy in her mind, or perhaps Riggan really is flying...somehow. Given that a previous scene in the movie shows Riggan's flying to be fantasy and Sam isn't exactly the most mentally stable or typically sober of people, the answer seems clear, but it's still struck up fervent debate online.
