The Scene: Scheming Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) lures ex-boyfriend Desi Collings (Neil Patrick Harris) to bed, and once they're having sex, she pulls out a box cutter and slits his throat, his blood spilling all over her body as he helplessly expires. Why It's So WTF: Though it was already well-established by this point that Amy was a total nutjob, few saw such a horrifically violent moment coming. It's extremely sudden and as per the usual, director David Fincher doesn't shy away from the grisly details of death. The combination of sex and death is always an easy way to make audiences uncomfortable, and this scene evokes a brilliantly sordid Basic Instinct vibe, at once sexy and...really, really screwed up. Plus, seeing an actor as likeable as Harris get killed in such a thoroughly unpleasant manner only makes the scene all that much more disturbing.
