4. Flying Bicycles (E.T.: The Extraterrestrial, 1982)
Yet another flying sequence from the New York composer. It's no secret that Spielberg has a fascination with flying, maybe because his father worked as a radio engineer in WW2 airplanes. Wherever his passion comes from, the flying scenes in his films are always spellbinding and more often than not imply a crucial point in the narrative. In order to escape the walkie talkie-clad authorities, E.T. resolves to enable Elliot and his friends to fly on their bicycles. This passage remains, to this day, an unforgettable moment in modern cinema - the visuals and the music have both been engraved in our minds forever in such a way that we can't look at the Amblin logo without hearing John William's masterpiece and emotionally resonant E.T. score.
