3. "You've Got Me? Who's Got You?!" (Superman, 1978)
John Williams has created music for four of the most celebrated fictional characters of 20th century literature: Tintin, Harry Potter, Peter Pan, and of course, Superman, whose main theme is almost as impossible to dissociate from the character as his red cape. If Richard Donner's timeless classic remains the best Superman film adaptation, it is in thanks in great part to John William's epic score. The scene in which Superman rescues Lois from a falling helicopter showcases the strengths of this film, from its impressive special effects, to Margot Kidder's and Christopher Reeve's chemistry, to Williams' epic fanfare. The composer's Superman soundtrack remains one of his most solid efforts, and features one of his best ever love themes. One of recent Man's of Steel's many imperfections was Hans Zimmer's lazy and overproduced score - at least John Ottman had the good sense and humility to use the ultimate Superman theme in the flawed Superman Returns.
