15 Brilliant John Williams Movie Moments

10. The Oklahoma Land Run (Far And Away, 1992)

Far And Away Back in the days when Nicole Kidman could still move her face, an up-and-coming Ron Howard cast her and Tom Cruise as Irish immigrants in this epic tale set in the infancy of the United States. This scene of gigantic proportions was shot in 70mm and features hundreds of extras and also Tom Cruise punching a horse. Yes, you read that right. John Williams' uplifting music perfectly supports the retelling of an event as unique as the 1893 Cherokee Strip land rush, in which previously restricted land (in what is now Oklahoma) was opened to more than 100,000 participants to homestead on a first-arrival-basis. This beautifully shot scene is the most memorable part of the movie, which features a very fresh-sounding soundtrack from Williams, who experimented extensively with Celtic folkloric music for this feature.
