15 Cinema Legends You Won't Believe Have Never Won Oscars

4. Albert Finney

Most recently seen in Bond flick Skyfall, veteran screen icon Albert Finney has been nominated five times at the Oscars; four times for his leading roles, and once for a support in Erin Brockovich. Finney has walked away empty-handed from every ceremony though. In 1963, his titular part in Tom Jones was snubbed in favour of Sidney Poitier's Homer Smith (Lilies of the Field), and eleven years later, he given the nod for Poirot in Murder On The Orient Express, but lost to Art Carney (Harry and Tonto). In '83 and 84, Finney was nominated again for The Dresser and Under The Volcano respectively, but again, was passed up on both occasions; this time, the awards went to Robert Duvall (Tender Mercies) and F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus). In 2000, Julia Roberts triumphed for Erin Brockovich, thanking Finney for his work on the film and sharing her award with him. It's the closest he's got to an Oscar of his own, even if it is Best Actress.
