15 Cinema Legends You Won't Believe Have Never Won Oscars

5. Sigourney Weaver

Following on from Ridley Scott, Alien star Sigourney Weaver has also never won an Oscar; surprisingly perhaps, given her status as the queen of science-fiction, and her appearance in 9 time-nominated Avatar. In the space of three years though, Weaver received three Academy Award nominations, for her roles in Aliens (1986), Gorillas in the Mist: The Story of Dian Fossey (1988) and Working Girl (also 1988), but lost out on all three; Marlee Matlin (Children of a Lesser God), Jodie Foster (The Accused) and Geena Davis (The Accidental Tourist) collected the awards, respectively. All three roles also saw her nominated for Golden Globes, two of which she won; her triumph in the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl mean that she's the only actress to have ever won two Globes in the same year. Weaver has also won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress (The Ice Storm) and has been nominated for a Tony Award for her stage-work, but it seems that at the Academy Awards, no one can hear her scream.
