15 Comic Book Movie Deaths That Didn't Last
8. John Constantine - Constantine
Cause Of Death: Suicide (twice, sort of).
Hellblazer discovers that Gabriel has decided to unleash Hell on Earth in order to wipe out all the unworthy humans that God seems to love too much, and to stop the ritual release of the Devilspawn Mammon, by opening up Rachel Weisz's stomach with the Spear Of Destiny he kills himself, stopping time and summoning the Devil himself, who was unaware of his son and Gabriel's plot.
Ultimately, Constantine's sacrifice spares him from a grim future in Hell, and he quits smoking in the final shot of the film, kicking Alan Moore squarely in the groin for no reason.
The Science Behind The Revival
Constantine knows that killing himself will summon the Devil himself to collect his soul, and he tricks the Big Bad into basically granting him access to Heaven by sacrificing the one wish he grants Constantine for his help.
Instead of asking to extend his own life, Constantine requests that Isabel gets sent to Heaven, and in doing so frees his soul from eternal damnation by means of noble self-sacrifice. Outraged, the Devil resurrects him and takes away his lung cancer, insisting that given long enough, Constantine will prove that he belongs in Hell.
