15 Most Controversial Movies Of 2014

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Changes (Almost) Everything

There was plenty of pre-hate for this movie before it even began shooting, when early scripts for the Turtles reboot leaked online in which the Turtles were depicted as aliens. This script was later scrapped, however, and production pressed on for a live-action reboot which attracted controversy pretty much every time it announced anything, be it that Jonathan Liebesman (Battle Los Angeles, Wrath of the Titans) was directing, or Megan Fox was starring as April O'Neil. The final movie itself proved even more troublesome, though, with fans criticising the decision to give the Turtles huamnoid-esque noses and mouths, as well as ret-conning their backstory (April has now known them since childhood) and introducing an incredibly creepy subplot in which Michelangelo keeps hitting on April. Unsurprisingly, the film was panned by most critics even if it was a significant commercial success, with a sequel already in the works.
