One of the most anticipated movies of 2014 also proved to be one of the most divisive, as Christopher Nolan's Interstellar was, depending on your opinion, either a Kubrickian sci-fi masterpiece, a competent yet flawed sci-fi, or a soppy pile of nonsensical garbage. Though the performances and visual splendour of the movie were almost universally praised, criticisms were lobbed at the massive amounts of exposition, poor female characters, and a third act which seemed to completely deviate from the hard science veneer of the previous two hours. Many fell in love with its ambitiousness and its sheer spectacle, however, choosing not to focus on individual moments but the sheer emotional heft of the entire movie. No film in 2014 has been as passionately argued about as this on both sides of the equation, while anyone stuck in between, who liked it with reservations, should just stick their fingers in their ears and walk away.
