15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Dark Knight Trilogy

13. The Microwave Emitter Makes No Sense (Batman Begins)

One of the most frequently-cited plot holes in Batman Begins is the use of a microwave emitter by the League of Shadows to help disperse Scarecrow's fear toxin in Gotham's water supply, causing the city to theoretically tear itself apart through mania and panic. The problem is, in vaporising the city's water supply, the emitter would also almost certainly kill the vast majority of Gotham's citizens immediately, considering that the human body is composed of roughly 75% water. Possible solutions have been suggested, such as the emitter's focus being so concentrated that it wouldn't affect any humans, but it's still a constantly-suggested issue with the film, one which Nolan probably should have anticipated and just given a one-line explanation for. It doesn't ruin the League's plot (unless you're a Science major), but it is a minor irritation given how easily it could have been hand-waived.
