15 Crazy Facts You Have To Accept To Enjoy Star Wars Movies
2. It's All Mace Windu's Fault
This isn't entirely obvious when you're younger, but really Palpatine didn't have to do too much to turn Anakin to the dark side. Sure, Palpatine sets things into motion throughout Episode III by telling Anakin that he deserves to be made a Master and that the reason the council are against him is because they don't trust him. The thing is, it's all true. They don't trust Anakin and Mace Windu even tells him that directly.
The Jedi are too far removed emotionally to relate to Anakin and actually help him in his time of need. Instead, the council - headed by Mace Windu - just push him away even further. It's an ironic twist in so many regards, but mainly in the Jedi's own betrayal of their beliefs.
In Episode I, Yoda tells a nine year old Anakin that "Fear is the path to the dark side." In Episode III, Mace Windu pushes Anakin away out of his own fear that Anakin would turn to the dark side out of his fear. Or to say in short, Mace Windu should have been the better Jedi Master and actually help Anakin.
