15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy Batman Movies
4. There Is Bizarre Lack Of Romantic Chemistry
Comic book movies, on the whole, don't have a very good hit rate when it comes to the subject of romance. And the Batman movies, of course, are especially guilty of this trope, given that there isn't a properly memorable romance in the bunch.
Most people would agree that there is little to no chemistry between the leads in the Burton/Schumacher films and any of their associated female characters (I'd let you argue that Keaton had some chemistry with Michel Pfeiffer, but I think that was just her putting out a great, overtly sexualised performance).
With Nolan's Dark Knight movies, it came down to the fact that Christian Bale and Katie Holmes had zero chemistry, whilst Bale and Gyllenhaal had even less. Then there's the Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway team-up, which came out of nowhere and was even less believable than the stilted Rachel romance.
If you like the Batman movies, then, you basically have to lower your expectations of a good romance. You're never gonna get one, apparently.
