15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy Batman Movies
3. That Cringeworthy Batvoice Isn't Going Away Anytime Soon
It's a grown man doing a funny voice, isn't it?
It doesn't matter if you're Michael Keaton, George Clooney, or Christian Bale, if you're a middle-aged man growling his way through lines of comic book dialogue, it's going to come off a bit rubbish. And that's fine: this is one of the facts we must accept when we sit down to watch Batman... there is going to be a variation of the Batvoice.
Christian Bale takes the cake for "worst attempt," of course, but in retrospect even Michael Keaton's attempt comes off as a little, uh, sincere. And then there's Ben Affleck's rendition in Batman v Superman, which is ruined by a strange reverb that gives it an uncomfortable, almost psychedelic edge.
The only time the Batvoice ever really sounds remotely passable is when it's used in an animated Batman cartoon. In this format, the admittedly over the top vocals feels natural and well-suited to the character because animation affords you that kind of luxury. When it's used outside of this context, though... oh, boy.
