15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy Batman Movies
11. The Editing/Action Is Frequently All Over The Place
This particular point is aimed at Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, which - alongside many other accolades - will be remembered from being fantastic to look at (which has a lot to do with Wally Pfister's fantastic cinematography).
But these movies have been flagged for their admittedly shoddy staging and editing. In other words, the physics of certain scenes just don't add up, making it impossible for your brain to follow the action in a cohesive way. Basically, there are lots and lots of continuity errors - especially in The Dark Knight's famous truck scene, where nothing comes together in a logical way.
Then there's the fight scenes, which are often awkward and hard to follow. Not in that Bourne way, where you plainly can't see what's happening, but in a stilted, flat way. Think about the final hand to hand fight between Bane and Batman in the third movie. This should have been a memorable bout, right? And yet it consists of a series of boring medium shots, resulting in a totally forgettable fight sequence.
So whilst these pictures are often hailed as "comic book movie masterpieces," a lot of film buffs out there won't be able to ignore the fact that they've also been assembled in a somewhat slapdash manner. Say what you want about Michael Bay, but the man knows how to put an action scene together - an ability Nolan lacks.
