15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy Batman Movies
12. Certain Characters Experience Random Personality Shifts
If you're a bit of an armchair detective, you might have noticed the fact that - between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight - the actress playing love interest Rachel Dawes changed. In the first film, audiences got Katie Holmes, whilst in the sequel, it was Maggie Gyllenhaal. Same goes for Billy Dee Williams' take on Harvey Dent in Batman, compared to the later version played by Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever.
Apart from actually being a completely different person, though, the Rachel of The Dark Knight is played as though she really is a completely different person. Rachel goes from "warm and sensitive" to "hardened, hot shot lawyer" in the space of six months. Regarding Williams and Jones, their Dents are like chalk and cheese.
Obviously these performances were going to differ somewhat, given that the actual human beings playing said characters were swapped out, but audiences are still asked to buy into several different incarnations entirely.
