9. All Policeman Seem To Be Idiots By Default

When you think about the Gotham City Police Department, you probably instinctively think of a bunch of lowlives, rats, and bumbling goons - and this stems from the fact that the GCPD have always been portrayed as incompetent in Batman movies, save for Jim Gordon and the occasional cop who "sees sense."

No wonder Gotham is such a dive: its police force is made up of some of the most amateurish pigs on planet Earth. Remember when they collectively failed to apprehend Bruce Wayne, one man, countless times? Remember when they all trundled obliviously into the sewers in The Dark Knight Rises?

When we sit down to a Batman flick, we must buy into the idea that - for some reason - the GCPD have no real idea what's going on and will constantly find themselves in a situation that Batman has to resolve. Which isn't very true to real life, given that - in the absence of Batman - the police would be the ones solving the crimes.

Okay, so it's kind of the point that the GCPD is so bad that Bruce is forced to step up, but it's still hard to believe any police force could fail this hard.
