Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning portrayal of The Joker is sublimely creepy in just about every scene, but there are a few standout moments, perhaps the best of which is the unforgettable hostage tape that the Clown Prince of Crime sends to local news outlets.

The tape shows The Joker talking to one of the Batman impersonators he's taken hostage, disturbingly toying with him and touching his face before shouting "Look at me!" in such an imposing manner that anyone who saw the movie in the cinema will surely remember the stunned awe that came over the audience immediately after.

The Joker signs off the tape by declaring that every day Batman doesn't unmask, he's going to kill people, starting now. He then slaughters the poor hostage as the tape mercifully cuts off.

To make it even more unsettling, Ledger directed the tape himself, its disturbing quality no doubt enhanced by just how immersed in the character he became.
