Rotten Tomatoes Score: 34%

Consensus: "It may offer energetic escapism for less demanding filmgoers, but Battleship is too loud, poorly written, and formulaic to justify its expense -- and a lot less fun than its source material."

Why did this face so much backlash exactly? It feels like everyone turned on it because it was based on a board game, which is hardly a just reason to hate a movie. Remember, Pirates of the Caribbean was based on a theme park ride.

Looking back now, it's ludicrous that this was seen as one of the worst films of the year. There is nothing particularly awful about Battleship and at the end of the day it's just another blockbuster. Sure, it's not that great or memorable but it's perfectly enjoyable and no worse than many other big-budget science-fiction films.

It's a reasonably well-done genre movie and while it doesn't do anything very interesting, it doesn't do that much wrong either. It's time to stop seeing this as one of the decade's worst blockbusters, especially when we're discussing a decade that includes films like London has Fallen, Transformers: The Last Knight, Pixels, Die Hard 5, The Last Airbender and Fantastic Four.
